Entry Requirements
Students are ideally expected to have achieved a good pass in GCSE Drama or a related subject. However, students with a genuine passion for theatre and performance, alongside practical experience in acting, directing, or backstage production, are also encouraged to apply.
The A Level Drama & Theatre course combines practical performance work with academic study, allowing students to explore theatre from both creative and analytical perspectives.
Drama and Theatre
Students study two contrasting set texts, exploring how meaning is created through performance and production elements such as acting, lighting, costume, and staging.
Creating Original Drama
Students devise and perform their own original piece of theatre, inspired by the techniques of a chosen theatre practitioner. This component is internally assessed.
Making Theatre
Students practically explore and interpret extracts from contrasting plays, developing their performance or design skills. This component is externally assessed by a visiting examiner.
Assessment is through a combination of written examinations, coursework, and live practical performance.
