Our Co-Curricular Programme
Our extensive co-curricular programme allows students to pursue academic, social, artistic, musical and sporting interests beyond the classroom. We believe that participating in a wide range of activities in an important addition to a successful personal and academic life at school. Through their chosen activities, our students learn to use their knowledge and skills independently and collaboratively with peers, developing their confidence, creativity and communication skills.
Co-curricular activities are offered every day after school. Prep is also offered daily until 5pm for students remaining in school but not participating in co-curricular activities. Supervision until 6pm is available in Bosworth Hall for day students.

Prep
Prep is offered daily until 5pm in the Grand Hall, which is located in the Newton Building. This is a supervised homework club where students are expected to complete set homework, engage in independent study or read. Students are expected to work quietly and independently, although some quiet collaboration can be allowed. There is no charge for Prep.
Between 5pm and 6pm, students are welcome to remain in Bosworth Hall to be collected.
Prep is offered to enable day students to remain at school (without attending co-curricular activities) to suit student and family schedules. It is offered on a flexible basis with parents able to book in advance or day to day.
Prep is only offered to day students as our boarding timetable includes an allocated homework and study period for boarders each day.
Wraparound Supervision
Recognising that our families have differing needs, we offer early morning and end of day supervision for day students. Our supervision offer covers 7:15am until 6pm daily.
Our early morning supervision has a small, additional cost – students will need to purchase a meal ticket for breakfast. There are no additional charges for Prep or students remaining in Bosworth Hall between 5pm and 6pm.
Breakfast
From 7:15am, day students are welcome to sign in early at the Newton Building and purchase a meal ticket for breakfast. They will access the Newton Café for breakfast. Students will be able to eat breakfast, complete homework, socialise with friends and/or engage in quiet activities.
Day students wishing to stay for dinner at Bosworth Hall should request this in advance and will need to purchase a meal ticket.

Academic
- Science CREST Awards
The CREST Award scheme aims to inspire young people to think and behave like scientists and engineers. Guided by their teachers, students complete practical investigations, including recording and presenting their findings. Covering a range of topics in Chemistry, Biology and Physics, the potential projects are aligned with the science curriculum
- Maths Club
Maths Club allows intrigued mathematicians to deepen their knowledge and understanding of mathematical concepts, principles, and theories. Students are supported to move beyond the National Curriculum to explore the beauties and intricacies of Maths as a subject and as an art.
- Science Olympiads
The Science Olympiads are opportunities to participate in academic challenges and competitions related to either Biology, Chemistry or Physics. The competitions can take different forms, ranging from written examinations to practical assessments, and often involve engaging lectures and activities that move beyond the GCSE and A-Level curriculums.
The Olympiads are an exciting way to deepen knowledge and understanding in the sciences. Participation can support success in GCSE and A-Level examinations as students extend their thinking and problem solving skills.
- Mathematical Challenges
The Junior, Intermediate, and Senior Mathematical Challenge encourages mathematical reasoning, precision of thought, and fluency in using basic mathematical techniques to solve interesting problems.
The problems on the Junior Mathematical Challenge are designed to make students think. Most are accessible, yet still challenge those with more experience.
The Mathematical Challenge leads on to Mathematical Olympiads which are available at each of the levels.
- STEP/MAT/PAT/TMUA
Some highly competitive Maths, Computer Science, Engineering and Physics degree courses at top UK universities require students to complete additional tests. To support student success, Bosworth provides tailored teaching as well as practice opportunities to students aiming to complete these tests.
- History Club
Explore history in countries and time periods beyond the core curriculum. Develop a passion for a particular period or place and deepen your knowledge, critical thinking and analytical skills while learning all about the events and experiences that have shaped historical figures (famous and ordinary) and crafted our modern world.
- Language Leaders
Create simple, fun video lessons in your native language that are shared with a local primary school to develop their language learning skills. Learn about teaching techniques for effective learning and share your languages and culture with our local community.
- Further Maths – Year 10 and Year 11
Further Maths broadens your mathematical experience and introduces new problem types and areas of Maths within familiar topics. For confident, interested mathematicians, this is an excellent way to move beyond the GCSE curriculum and explore the beauty of Maths.
- Model United Nations
Model United Nations is an opportunity to learn about diplomacy, international relations and how the United Nations operates. It allows students to develop an understanding of world issues and politics.
- Business Enterprise
Our Business Enterprise club allows students to experience starting and running a business. From ideation to product development and marketing strategy, students explore every aspect of business operation.
- Bosworth Newspaper
Perfect for any budding writer! Bosworth Newspaper shares important school and local news, celebrates student successes and provides a space for student written prose, poetry and fiction. If you are interested in writing, Bosworth Newspaper is an excellent space to develop your voice and style. You’ll receive support to hone your journalistic instincts or enhance your creative writing.
- Electronics
An opportunity to explore all things electronic! Develop the skills to build simple electronic projects. A great foundation for anyone interested in engineering and computer science.
- Coding Club
Come and learn the most commonly used coding languages and develop essential tech skills. Coding is a great skill to have for your future career and just for fun.
- Extended Project Qualification (EPQ)
Offered only to A-Level students, the Extended Project Qualification allows students to undertake an independent research project on a topic of their choice. Students can explore a topic from their A-Level studies in greater depth or pursue a personal interest in an academic area. It is excellent preparation for the independent study required at university. Many students enjoy the chance to extend and showcase their knowledge, as well as developing their research, communication and presentation skills.
- Oxbridge Preparation Programme
Bosworth Independent School offers a comprehensive preparation programme for potential Oxbridge entrants. Our programme supports students from Year 9 onwards to develop their academic and extracurricular interests, gain relevant work and voluntary experience and build a strong application.Students are encouraged to participate in academic challenges and competitions, such as the Science Olympiads and essay-writing prizes. Where student interests allow, there is also encouragement to participate in non-academic competitions and activities that also demonstrate commitment to a subject area or interest. Opportunities to participate in lectures and seminars relevant to subject areas and/or Oxbridge and other highly competitive university entrance are available too.During the application process, students receive tailored support with their application and interview skills. Students attend the ‘Oxford and Cambridge Online Conference’ to develop insight into the admissions process and expectations. We offer multiple opportunities for interview practice, including Oxbridge style interviews.Students receive support with preparation for relevant admissions tests.
- Medic Preparation Programme
Bosworth Independent School offers a comprehensive preparation programme for potential entrants to medicine, dentistry and veterinary science. Students receive support with developing the relevant academic skills and work and voluntary experiences to form a strong application.Students are encouraged to participate in academic challenges and competitions, such as the Science Olympiads and essay-writing prizes. Where student interests allow, there is also encouragement to participate in non-academic competitions and activities that also demonstrate commitment to a subject area or interest. Opportunities to participate in lectures and seminars are available too.Potential medical students receive tailored support in preparing for the admissions tests and medical interviews.

Whether joining the Premier League is the dream, or you just enjoy playing ‘the beautiful game’, Football Club is for you. Learn new skills, techniques and strategies through drills and apply them in games. There are opportunities to participate in inter-school competitions as well.
- Basketball
A fun, fast paced sport with lots of opportunities to build strength, stamina and skills.

- Volleyball
Volleyball is a fun sport that can be played on a court, a field or the beach. Learn a new skills and techniques to improve your game whilst having lots of fun.

Learn new skills, techniques and strategies through drills and apply them in games.

- Badminton
Learn techniques and skills to improve your game. Then challenge yourself in our club competition – play against others as singles or doubles and see who becomes the club champ each term!
- Horse Riding Club
An opportunity to engage in equestrian sports. Learn to ride and care for horses in this fun club. This club is subject to student interest and incurs an additional cost.
- Indoor Rock Climbing
Learn to scale indoor climbing walls, from beginner to advanced.
This club is subject to student interest and incurs an additional cost.
- Sailing Club
Sailing is a fun, relaxing pastime that involves lots of skill and technique. Come learn to sail.

Arts and Music
- LAMDA Exams
Designed by London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art, the LAMDA examinations are perfect for both future actors and business professionals alike. The LAMDA syllabus develops a student’s speaking voice, physical presence and self-confidence, building a strong foundation for confident communication and public speaking in any setting. Our students are encouraged to take the communication exams, which develop useful presentation and public speaking skills that can be utilised at university and in the workplace. Keen students may also wish to pursue exams in acting, movement and theatre
- Performing Arts
Performing Arts club is an opportunity to explore your creativity and imagination using acting, movement and music to depict stories. We will explore different theatrical techniques and styles, using a range of play scripts and ideas. There will opportunities to perform within the club and for external audiences.
- Music Groups
Depending on student interest, we offer opportunities for students to practice and perform music in groups. We can facilitate wind, brass, string and choral groups as well as bands and an orchestra. Practice sessions are scheduled before and after school and during lunch breaks.
- Peripatetic Music Lessons
Private, individual lessons with external music teachers can be arranged for students. Lessons for a wide range of instruments can be organised for the beginner to more advanced learner.
- Art Club
Explore different techniques, styles and mediums in Art Club. Students will be taught a wide variety of techniques and styles, mastering different mediums that they can apply in guided or independent art projects. Art Club is an opportunity to deepen your knowledge of art and art history beyond the classroom. Students can also use art club to develop an independent portfolio if they wish.
- Photography Club
An opportunity to learn about photography and the art of taking photographs that inspire and move others.
- Drama
Performing Arts club is an opportunity to explore your creativity and imagination using acting and movement to depict stories. We will explore different theatrical techniques and styles, using a range of play scripts and ideas. There will opportunities to perform within the club and for external audiences.
- Creative Writing
In Creative Writing club, there are opportunities to share and improve your own writing as well as learn about different creative formats, such as prose, narrative and poetry.
- Knitting and Crocheting
Learn to knit and crochet to craft unique items. From the basic stitches to more complex ones, learn a new skill and begin making your own blankets, bags and even clothes. See Instagram accounts with crocheted dresses and tops – you could make one too!
- Cooking Essentials
Learning to cook a few delicious dishes is an essential life skill. With just three or four recipes, you will be able to feed yourself, entertain friends and maybe even celebrate major life events with a special dessert. Join Cooking Essentials to learn how to cook some delicious but simple meals!
Student Leadership
- Student Council
Student Council provides a student voice on matters affecting the student and whole school community. School Council members also organise high profile school events, such as the Christmas Party and End of Year Ball, gaining valuable events management skills.
- Head Student
Two head students are elected each academic year by the student body. The head students lead the student council, coordinating student council meetings, attending meetings with the school leadership time and chairing events committees. As head student, you are responsible for representing the school at various events, acting as an ambassador for Bosworth.
- Prefect
The prefects are ambassadors for our school, and we expect each of them to embrace the international ethos of the school and promote school values. They lead by example, ensuring the pursuit of academic excellence and orderly behaviour. They are positive and enthusiastic, encouraging and motivating fellow students. Prefects attend all school events and activities to help staff and lead events.
- House Captain
The house captain and their house vice-captain act as link between house teachers and house members. They coordinate work to be done within their house with the captains of the other houses. Their key function is to motivate and encourage students to participate in inter-house events throughout the year and to support their house in respect of communicating to the school-wide community.
- Peer Mentor
The Prefects, and any other student wanting to support their peers, offer their support in two ways, they can become a Welfare Mentor, or an Academic Mentor. The function of the mentors is to offer advice and help with issues relating to friendship, or a specific subject topic and to signpost their mentee to the right members of staff who can support them further.
- Boarding Committee
Boarding students have the opportunity to join the boarding committee. Students can develop leadership and teamwork skills by helping coordinate house activities, such as film nights and outings.
- Charity Events and Fundraising Committee
Support the local community and national and international charities through fundraising efforts. Students are encouraged to select a charity and coordinate a fundraising event.

Engage with Amnesty International’s important social justice work globally.
- Red Cross Club
Knowing how to react in emergency situations can save a life.
- The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award
The prestigious Duke of Edinburgh’s Award supports young people to develop confidence, resilience and perseverance by completing a series of personal goals and challenges. Students undertake activities in the following areas:- Volunteering – students complete voluntary activity that supports individuals or the community
– Physical – students must show improvement in a sports, dance or fitness activity
– Skills – students must develop a new or existing physical or social skillAll students also undertake an expedition, where they will hike and camp, within the UK or overseas. Students can choose to undertake the Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme, beginning with the Bronze award in Year 10 and continuing to the Silver and Gold award if they choose.
Wellbeing
- Mindfulness
Mindfulness can be a powerful tool for emotional regulation and wellbeing. Different people enjoy and benefit from different techniques so each session explores a different mindfulness practice.
- Wellbeing Drop In
Open to any student with no commitments. An opportunity to engage in varied wellbeing activities and share your experiences.
Social
- Film Club
At Film Club, students watch and discuss a range of classic and popular films. Developing an understanding of artistic techniques and choices within film, students learn about film as an art and entertainment form.
- Boardgames Club
Table top boardgames challenge our strategic and critical thinking skills in fun ways. Join your friends to play a range of 2 to 6 player games from classics, like Monopoly and Cluedo, to new ideas, like Sushi Go and Codenames.
- Diversity Club
Celebrate our diverse school community. Help plan events that celebrate the cultures and customs represented at the school.
