Celebrating Cultural Connections

Five dedicated students from Bosworth Independent School embarked on a rewarding and memorable visit to St Peter’s School in Kettering. After several weeks of careful preparation, collaboration and practice, they delivered engaging presentations on Portuguese and Cantonese language and culture to an audience of enthusiastic Year 5 and 6 pupils.

The sessions were thoughtfully designed to be both educational and interactive, encouraging curiosity and participation from the younger students. From discovering new words and phrases to learning about cultural traditions, the pupils were fully immersed in the experience. A particular highlight of the visit was the creative activities that followed, including colouring a Brazilian capybara and practising how to write their names in Cantonese a fun and hands-on way to bring cultural learning to life.

Beyond the classroom, the visit also provided an invaluable opportunity for our students to develop key life skills. Through planning, teamwork and presenting to a younger audience, they strengthened their communication, confidence and adaptability all essential qualities for their future academic and personal journeys.

Here’s what our students said about this unforgettable experience:

“The overall experience was really amazing, had a nice time teaching children from St Peter’s School more about Hong Kong’s culture. I have learnt quite a lot from it and it will definitely help me in the future with university applications and interviews.”

“Which is a wonderful memory for us, St Peter’s School, Kettering. In this presentation we learn how important teamwork for us. The most things we need to focus on is communication to the little children.”

“Talking about your country to children that are curious is an amazing experience. Weeks of preparation that were really worth it. Certainly, one of the best things I did this year. It helped me improve my presentation skills.”

“It was a fantastic experience that we had a lot of joy at St Peter’s School and learnt how to teach something that we are familiar with but in another language. To be honest, I was a bit nervous to present in front of so many people. However, the staff at St Peter’s are very kind and the children are really respectful and enjoyed the time with us, which helped me feel relaxed and grateful during the whole trip.”

“My day at St Peter’s was a great experience. I had a brilliant time presenting Hong Kong’s culture, food and animals. I learned how to make presentations more enjoyable for children, and I also realised how important teamwork is.”

This visit was not only a celebration of cultural diversity, but also a reflection of the confidence, curiosity and global outlook we encourage in all our students. Opportunities such as this allow them to step beyond the classroom, share their perspectives, and make meaningful connections with others.

A huge well done to our wonderful students for their enthusiasm, teamwork and confidence. They were fantastic ambassadors for their cultures and made a lasting impression on the pupils at St Peter’s School.
